PHP Programming Practice - Yukon

print this article

PHP is a programming language that is frequently used for web applications, and also useful for quick scripting. As with ASP, it is convenient to mix PHP with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) in order to produce dynamic webpages.

Transparen Corporation hosts a free unofficial mirror of the PHP documentation, and provides custom programs written in PHP.

Many of Transparen's programmers specialize in PHP. The advantages of using PHP include:

  • It can run on Linux under Apache, which is more common than Microsoft IIS, so hosting costs will be lower.
  • There are more PHP programmers available at lower cost than there are ASP, ASP.NET, or Cold Fusion programmers, so the cost of development is often lower.
  • PHP is a high-level programming language that allows programmers to get work done very quickly, and does not require the time-consuming compile step that ASP.NET requires, so development in PHP often proceeds faster than development in ASP.NET.
  • When there are problems in PHP, the error messages do not usually contain sensitive information such as the database password, in contrast to what often happens in Cold Fusion websites.

However, we can also provide assistance with web-based solutions employing:

  • ASP
  • ASP.NET
  • Cold Fusion
